How to Set Up Custom 301 Redirects in Wix

This article provides step-by-step instructions for setting up custom 301 redirects on your Wix website. A 301 redirect is a permanent redirection from one URL to another, preserving SEO value and ensuring visitors reach the correct page when URLs change.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding, ensure you have:

  • An active Wix account with access to your site's Dashboard.

  • The old URL(s) you wish to redirect and the corresponding new destination URL(s).

Instructions

Step 1: Access the URL Redirect Manager

  1. From your Wix Dashboard, navigate to: Site & Mobile App > Website & SEO > SEO

  2. Scroll down and click on URL Redirect Manager.

Step 2: Add a New Redirect

  1. Click the New Redirect button.

  2. In the redirect setup form, enter the following details:

    • Old URL: The URL path you want to redirect (e.g., /old-page).

    • New URL: The destination URL path (e.g., /new-page).

Step 3: Save and Test the Redirect

  1. Verify that both URLs are entered correctly.

  2. Click Save to create the redirect.

  3. Test the redirect by entering the old URL in your browser to confirm it correctly redirects to the new URL.

Additional Tips

  • Consistency: Ensure URL paths are formatted consistently (e.g., always use or omit trailing slashes uniformly).

  • Testing: Use an incognito window or a different browser to test your redirects and avoid caching issues.

  • Avoid Redirect Chains: Limit multiple chained redirects to prevent slow page loads and potential SEO penalties.
